Frequently Asked Questions

Q:     How expensive is it to get a new tile or hardwood floor?

That depends upon a number of factors including materials chosen, area to be covered, and whether the floor is to be installed on a slab (concrete) or crawlspace. In addition, if there is a floor already in place or furniture which needs to be removed the cost will be more unless the customer desires to remove these in advance of installation. Typically, the total price for a tile, laminate, or pre-engineered hardwood floor is between $4.50-$6.50 / sq. ft. and a plank hardwood floor is between $6.00-$8.00 / sq. ft. Simply use a tape measure to determine the area you wish to cover (length x width) and multiply by the price range which corresponds to the type of floor you want to get a rough estimate of what it would cost. Or, call us at (910)-546-3800 and we'll be happy to come and give you an exact price.

Q:     How long does it take to install tile or hardwood?

Typically, we are able to install 200-300 sq. ft. per day, depending upon the type of material being installed and how the rooms are divided (rooms with closets, cabinets, or irregular areas require more time to complete). If time is critical we can occasionally deploy two crews at a time in order to speed up the process. Also, the customer can prepare the area for installation by removing existing floor coverings and furniture to save time and expense.

Q:     Is there any difference in installation over a slab or crawlspace foundation?

If you are having tile installed on your floor, then the answer is "yes". The subfloor for a crawlspace is made of wood and it expands and contracts significantly as the temperature and humidity change. This expansion causes cracks if the tile is installed directly onto the subfloor. To prevent this, an underlayment material such as Durrock is installed over the subfloor, thus providing the perfect material for tile adhesion. Since a slab is made of concrete, this step is not necessary. Laminate and hardwood floors can be installed directly over either type of foundation with no problems, provided a moisture barrier is laid down first.
